China Provinces


China has thirty-four provincial-level administrave units distributing in seven geographical regions. In North China, there are capital Beijing, Tianjin Municipality and the other three provinces. Northeast China are the three provines of Heilongjiang, Jilin and Liaoning in high latitude area with chilly winter. East China, including six provinces and Shanghai City, mainly covers the developed eastern coastal area. South China is located in subtropical area and made up of three provinces and Hong Kong, Macau, Taiwan. The traditional Cantonese Culture formed in this region has been a highlight of Chinese culture until now.

The large Southwest China has four provinces and one city located on the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau, Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau and Sichuan Basin. There are a number of ethnic groups inhabited in this region. The inland Northwest China which has the most complicated landform is composed of five provinces. It is also the birthplace of the long history of the nation along Yellow River.
